Stroller Strides: Frequently Asked Questions

What do I bring to class?

You will need your stroller and whatever your child/children require for the hour (e.g. snacks & stroller toys, if appropriate). Bring a yoga mat or towel for ground work and water to drink. Be sure to wear athletic shoes and comfortable clothes you can sweat in!

Depending on the weather and season, consider sunblock or warm layers for you and your little one.

What are the ages of the children that come to class?

We welcome all stroller-age children, usually 6 weeks old to age 5 years at our Stroller Strides classes.

What if the weather is bad? How do I know if class is cancelled?

We will only cancel classes in extreme weather conditions or extenuating circumstances (e.g. family emergency of the instructor). To find out the status of a Stroller Strides class, please refer to our online schedule to see the most up to date schedule. Any changes to a class will also be announced on our Facebook pages. I'm out of shape! Are the workouts appropriate for my fitness level?

Yes! Stroller Strides workouts include a warm-up, intervals of power walking or jogging (your choice - no pressure ever to run) and strength training, as well as abdominal work and stretching. That said, the class is structured so that you are able to take it to whatever fitness level you need. We challenge and support you where you are, but give you the opportunity and motivation to improve your physical strength and endurance. We all know that being a Mom is physically demanding.

Is Stroller Strides a walking group?

No. We workout, not walk. Stroller Strides classes consist of a one hour full body workout that includes strength training, cardiovascular activity and stretching. When we're on the move Moms power walk or jog (it's your choice - you are never required to run) with their strollers. Try a class and you'll see classes are not just "a walk in the park". :)

How old does my baby have to be to participate in Stroller Strides?

We strongly recommend waiting until your baby is at least 6 weeks of age to begin class. They can take classes up to any age as long as they still enjoy a ride in the stroller. Always get your doctor's permission before starting this or any other kind of exercise program.

What if my child gets fussy?

We're all Moms! It happens to all of us – and it’s OK! Tend to your baby if they need you and your instructor we will also be happy to help to calm, entertain and distract your child as best we can while you get your workout in. If you need to stop for a few minutes to care for the baby's needs, you can always catch up with the group because we stop every few minutes for another station. Our instructors will do their very best to make the class enjoyable for both you and your baby.

Does my toddler or pre-school aged child have to ride in a stroller at Stroller Strides?

Yes. All children must remain in their stroller for class. This is first and foremost for their safety. We also move fast and their little legs often can’t keep up. Most all children have no problem riding along with us and get very used to it after just a few classes. They are also entertained throughout the class with songs and activities.
